Inmate passes away

A 40-year-old man from Nambol Kongkham in Bishnupur district who was lodged at the Nambol Higher Secondary School Community Quarantine Centre passed away last night at 11.18 .
According to a statement of the Chief Medical Officer, Bishnupur the man had been living at Guwahati, their temporary residence, for the past seven years.
He returned home on July 13 by flight and as per COVID-19 SOP he was lodged at Nambol Higher Secondary School Community Quarantine Centre.
He was under treatment for multiple viral infections starting from September 2013 at Guwahati.
He was also suffering from multiple organ failure due to the prolonged illness, it said.
As his condition deteriorated, the District Surveillance Officer Bishnupur, Dr L Ralchandra Singh and Dr L Kuber Singh, Medical Officer-in-charge CHC Nambol took care of the patient till late at night, it further said.
His sample has been taken for COVID-19 test but a report is awaited.
The medical team is working on the assumption of handling a COVID-19 positive body, it said.
The body was wrapped and disinfected and has been taken by ambulance from the Community Quarantine Centre to crematorium.
The crematorium shall also be disinfected afterwards, it said.
COVID-19 is spread by droplets from cough and sneeze of infected persons.
There is very little risk of spread from a dead body.
However, all due care was taken to protect the family members and community considering the present scenario, it said.
In the meantime those people who returned along with him will continue to stay at the Community Quarantine Centre, it added.
