Manipur native appointed HoD of National Archives

In yet another moment of pride for Manipur, Naoroibam Raju Singh has been appointed as the Head of Department of the National Archives of India, Regional Centre, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on November 27, 2020 .
Born at Heingang Mayai Leikai to N Shamungou Singh and late Ahanbi Devi.
Raju did his BSc in Biochemistry from DM College, Imphal, but left in the middle for New Delhi to pursue a Bachelor's as well as Master's Degree in History and Diploma in Archival Sciences from the National Archives of India.
He was at Manipur State Archives from 1994-1999 .
He brought out more than 13 Guide Volumes under the project UNESCO's Guide to the Sources of Asian History.
Besides, he has published some historical books: (a) Select document of Jana Neta Irawat Vol-I, (b) Compilation of seminar papers (c) Notes on Meitei beliefs and customs for the use of scholars and the general public.
Archives being a new subject in the State, he always tried to promote archival awareness through seminars, exhibitions of documents, mobile exhibition, workshops, radio talks, writing through local newspapers and magazines etc.
Raju was appointed as Asstt.
Archivist (Group B) in 1998 through UPSC but joined in March 1999 as he had to complete some pending works in the State Archives.
During his service he had been entrusted the work of Reconstitution of Indian Historical Records Commission, National Committees of Archivists, International Relations both at National and International level, Implementation of Cultural Exchange Programmes/Memorandum of Understandings with various countries, Committee and Conferences, Tagore Fellowship, Advisory Work, Providing facilities to the Agencies for shooting documents, delivering lectures to the visitors about the role of the National Archives of India in preserving the documentary heritage of the country, faculty member of the School of Archival Studies of NAI, etc.
He was also entrusted the duty of Treasurer of the South-West Asian Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives which includes India, Pakistan, Iran, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri-Lanka.
He played a very important role in highlighting the National Archives of India at the International level in which the National Archives of India is an "A" category member of the International Council on Archives (France).
Besides holding and organizing nearly two dozen workshops and seminars at the National and international level, Raju has complied and published over a dozen books over the last 20 years.
He also was deputed to almost all the States across the country and Malaysia, Surinam in South America.
Raju was promoted to the Archivist in 2009 .
He is holding the post of Assistant Director of Archives (Group A) and now posted as Head of the Department of the Regional Office, National Archives of India, Bhopal wef, 27 November 2020 .
