Imphal, October 12 2008:
An area of 85 acres have been set aside at Lamdeng for the Solid Waste Treatment Plant planned to be taken up in the State under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission, said PDA Chairman Dr Kh Loken.
Dr Kh Loken was speaking at the kick-off function of Total Cleanliness Campaign 2008 at Kangabam Leikai.
The campaign was jointly organised by Manikumar Trust, KADCO and NWC.
For the Solid Waste Treatment Plant planned to be taken up in the State at the cost of Rs 26 crores, an amount of Rs 5.8 crores have been sanctioned with the submission of project report to the Deccan Consultant Works, said Loken.
The solid waste treatment plant which would have guarantee for 60 years will convert solid wastes collected from Imphal city and surrounding areas into organic fertilizer.
The kick-off function was also attended by Chairperson of Imphal Municipal Council RK Ranisana and Councillor K Tikendra.
