The Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the killing of Thokchom Gunindro of Kongba Kshetri Leikai has demanded that an inquiry be made by the Governor Ved Marwah into the killing of Gunindro and arrange an opportunity for any arrested persons to defend himself in Law courts before killing him in alleged fake encounters.
With a decision to launch various forms of democratic protests for seeking natural justice, the JAC in a memorandum stated that Gunindro was arrested by the 17th Assam Rifles personnel from the residence of one Achom Deban of Sagolband Moirang Leirak on October 10 at 11 pm.
The AR personnel killed Gunindro in a fake encounter at Singjamei Bridge at midnight on the day after knowing the gravity of the injury suffered by him.
They wrongly reported the fact through the media, it said urging the Governor to make the security personnel follow the guidelines of the Supreme Court.
According to the Supreme Court ruling, arrest memo should have been given to his relatives or the family when he was arrested.
The Governor should also check the security personnel from acting about the law, it stated.
Meanwhile, the body of the PLA Sgt Major has been cremated after it was taken from the RIMS mortuary by the bereaved family members today.
Gunindro was allegedly shot dead by 17 AR personnel at Singjamei Thong Wangma on Wednesday night.
