Imphal, October 12:
Employees of the Manipur State Road Transport Corporation, MSRTC, launched an indefinite cease work strike from today protesting against non payment of their salaries for two years.
The employees also staged a sit-in demonstration in front of the MSRTC gate from 5:30 this morning.
Owing to the strike the railway ticket counter located within the MSRTC complex was closed, and other work including issue of army travel warrants carried on within the complex was paralyzed.
Speaking to IFP, the employees said they had submitted a memorandum to the Governor, the advisor (R), who is also the chairman of the MSRTC, the chief secretary, and the transport secretary drawing their attention to the employees' plight 14 days back, but no positive response has come.
Expressing strong resentment at the authorities, the employees pointed out that during the recent highway blockades, instead of hiring private drivers, the government utilized MSRTC drivers to retrieve oil-tankers stranded outside the state.
During bandhs, they are used every time to pick up state government employees, they pointed out.
