Packaged food, drinks with invalid license seized

The Designated Officer of Imphal East Food Safety Administration, Tekcham Brojendro Khaba today said that three drink and food items under the name Likla Mix Fruit Jam manufactured by Thangjam Agro Industries Limited and Sana Nimbu Pani Lime Ginger and Pineapple Nectar manufactured by A Family Food Products, are being produced under invalid license and urged the public not to consume the said packaged food and drinks.
Speaking to reporters at the office of Food Safety Administration, Medical Directorate today, the official said that the said food and drink products were found to be still produced under the licenses issued in 2011 which have expired after licenses were issued after online registration.
Food Safety Officers came across the said packaged food and drinks during an inspection drive launched yesterday, said the official and added that it is illegal and unethical on the part of the firms to keep on manufacturing food and drink items under invalid licenses.
The invalid license under which New Likla Mix Fruit Jam is being manufactured is 11611008000001 of batch number 46 while the Sana Nimbu Pani Lime Ginger and Pineapple Nectar Ready to Serve Drink of A Family of Food Products is manufactured under license number 11611009000264, said the official.
Stating that the Food Safety Administration will take up stern action against such practices, the official urged the public not to buy any products under the given license number.
A fine of Rs 5 lakh plus imprisonment for six months may be imposed under Section 63 of the Food Safety and Standard Act against such defaulters, he added.
