Anticipatory bail for Health Director

Session Judge Imphal West granted interim anticipatory bail to Dr Kangujam Rajo, Director Health Services, Manipur yesterday in a case pertaining to procurement and supply of 'substandard' N-95 masks in the wake of COVID-19 outbreak.
The anticipatory bail application was filed by Dr K Rajo (59) against an FIR registered against him with the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Police Station.
The anticipatory bail was filed apprehending arrest, as the Vigilance & Anti-Corruption Police has already arrested a senior medical doctor in connection with the case, Dr K Rajo's Counsel submitted in the Court yesterday.
The Court after hearing the submissions, granted interim anticipatory bail to Dr K Rajo till July 16.In the event of his arrest in connection with the FIR case, the petitioner (Dr K Rajo) shall be released on interim bail on execution of PR bond of Rs 1 lakh with one surety of like amount and on the condition that he shall cooperate with the investigation.
Dr K Rajo shall not leave the State without the permission of the Court, the order read.
It may be noted that Mairembam Dinesh, a Senior Medical Officer of the Medical Directorate was arrested on July 7 in connection with procurement of medical protective gear including 'substandard' N-95 masks from various agencies without issuing supply order.
The medical protective gear including the 'substandard' N-95 masks were supplied to district hospitals.
The Senior Medical Officer was remanded to custody of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Police for 3 days yesterday.
It may be mentioned that the Vigilance and Anti Corruption police had raided and seized N-95 masks kept at the Central Medical Store of the Medical Directorate on April 17 following detection of soiled masks at the Churachandpur district hospital.
