A Manipur politician displays a benign effort to extend good samaritan service to the HIV/AIDS patients.
A legislator from Lilong A/C in Thoubal district of Manipur Md.Helaluddin has set an example for all to follow by announcing to give Rs 5000 each annually as monetary assistance to every family affected with HIV/AIDS in his Assembly constituency from his Local Area Development Fund.
Helaluddin was announcing this at Lilong Turel Ahanbi in Thoubal district during the one-day Convention on HIV/AIDS organised by the Manipur Legislative Forum on HIV/AIDS today.
The announcement of Helaluddin was followed by comments from a fellow legislator non other than secretary of the Manipur Legislative Forum on HIV/AIDS MLA Dr I Ibohalbi, who also said the commitment of the legislator as a "lesson to all".
Dr Ibohalbi also said that such steps have been 'never initiated before in the annals of fighting HIV/AIDS in Manipur.' The campaign was organized as part of the legislators' forum campaign against HIV/AIDS in the state.
Ibohalbi also said that the campaign has been organized in 9 assembly constituencies and said that it will organize the same in all the remaining 51 A/Cs.
He also said that the legislator forum will also organize a Sensitization Program on March 12 at the assembly hall after the end of the assembly session.
During the convention at Lilong in Thoubal district on Sunday, the Manipur AIDS Control Society (MACS) project director has also assured to open up an integrated counselling testing centre (ICTC) at two places in Lilong in collaboration with the Public Health Centre (PHC) and Community Health Centre (CHC) of Lilong.
The Manipur Legislative Forum on HIV/AIDS had started its campaign for HIV/AIDS on January 11 at Konthoujam A/C in Imphal and it has so far covered conducting the campaign to 9 A/Cs.
