Imphal, December 08: Babina Diagnostic Centre, RIMS Road, Imphal has become the first laboratory in the North Eastern region to achieve the rare distinction of being accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL).

Announcing this during a press conference here today, Managing Director of the Centre Dr Th Dhabali said along with the formal recognition of the technical competence in the field of medical diagnostics, the Centre, which is a unit of the Babina Health Care and Hospitality Industries Private Limited, has now become a member of an elite global family of accredited laboratories whose competency of testing as well as the quality, accuracy and reliability of test results would be accepted internationally.

NABL is an autonomous body under the aegis of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India which is established with the objective of providing the Government, Industry Associations and the Industry in general with a scheme for third-party assessment of the quality and technical competence of testing and calibration laboratories.

The accreditation system of NABL is in accordance with ISO/IEC 17011:2004 which is followed internationally.

Dr Dhabali further informed that Babina Diagnostic Centre is among the 101 accredited laboratories of India and the first in the northeastern region.

He explained that starting from documentation of the quality manual through pre-audit and culminating with the final audit, the accreditation process is a rigorous one.

But the fact that Babina Diagnostic Centre could complete this accreditation process within a span of just eight months speaks volumes about the dedication, efficiency and effectiveness of the Centre in implementing a world class Laboratory Service Delivery System, the managing director said, adding that the recognition gain by the Centre would be to the benefit of both the lab and its customers.

Dr Dhabali further said that around 1.50 lakhs patients/samples are being investigated every year in the Centre which has facilities for Pathology Lab, Digital X-ray, Ultrasound and Colour Doppler, CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), ECG, Eco-Cardiography, Audiometry, etc.

Apart from having set up joint venture centres at Assam, Shillong and Nagaland, there are as many as 45 connection centres of Babina Diagnostic Centre in different parts of Manipur, the managing director of the Centre disclosed, adding that the main aim of the Centre is to provide quality health care service at affordable price, to install the latest medical equipments and expansion in other States and region.

Talking of other unique features of the Centre, he mentioned advanced laboratory information system, bar code labelling, connection of all the machines with LIS, informative directory of service, website www.babinadiagnostics.com, continuing medical education, etc.
