A joint meeting of the Transport, Traffic Control Police, Imphal Municipal Council and the All Manipur Rickshaw Drivers and Pullers� Welfare Association yesterday agreed to regulate the entry of cycle rickshaw into the bazar area in Imphal city.
AMRDPWA president Md Kayamuddin requested the Secretary (Transport) for the relaxation of the strict regulation on entry of cycle rickshaws in and around the Imphal Bazar areas.
The AMRDPWA general secretary Khuprengthang Kom asked for initiating a traffic awareness programme specially for the rickshaw pullers from the government side for the education of traffic offenders among the rickshaw pullers.
The Secretary (Transport) directed the Deputy Director (Transport) and the DSP (Traffic) to initiate such traffic awareness campaigns with the release of booklets/ handbooks on traffic signs and road regulations.
After a thorough deliberation on the issue, the cycle rickshaw pullers have been allowed to enter the Imphal market areas with the following entry and exit points � Governor Road, Assembly road, Keishampat Bridge Junction, Khoyathong Junction, Sagolband etc.
the other existing traffic regulations on cycle rickshaws in and around bazar areas shall remain enforced.
