The Government has appointed Bishnupur District Magistrate IM Sajjad Hussain, IAS to head the magisterial inquiry into the death of W Brojendro of Torbung Bangala who died in BSF custody on September 2.A notification in this regard has been issued by the DC yesterday.
The notification asked relatives of the deceased and other persons interested in giving evidence and statements either in persons or in writing before the DM within 15 days.
Brojen was handed over dead to Bishnupur police on September 2 after he was rounded up by 128 Bn BSF personnel along with 17 other persons during a search operation in Thanga area conducted on September 1.The Government yesterday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident, the report of which will be submitted within one month.
Several organizations and residents of Thanga and Torbung Bangala had been demanding a judicial probe into the incident.
The BSF authority had also begun a staff court of inquiry into the incident.
Meanwhile, Brojen�s body has been collected by family members from the Churachandpur District Hospital morgue this evening.
Post mortem was conducted at the Churachandpur hospital due to fear of outbreak of violence in Imphal.
The Society for Education and Economic Development Bishnupur has appealed to the Social Education Cultural Health Development Organization to relax its 48 hours general strike on Tiddim road beginning at 11 pm of September 7 in view of the Literacy Day falling on September 8.In a statement, the organization has shared the sorrow of the bereaved families.
SECHDO had amounted that will call a general strike if the Government fails to fulfill its demands in connection with the death of Brojendro.
United Clubs� Organization of Bishnupur District, Ningthoukhong appealed to all the voluntary organizations in Bishnupur district to support the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the killing of W Brojen Singh of Torbung Bangala on September 1 by a combined team of State police and 128 Bn BSF troops, it said.
