BT road case: Babloo to depose again

Following an application from Head Constable Thounaojam Herojit's counsel, Sessions Court, Imphal West today granted reappearance of human rights activist Babloo Loitongbam as a witness in the July 23 BT Road incident case at the next hearing on August 8 .
The permission was granted during the Sessions trial held at the Court today.
Three accused � Y Munal, Jagat and Kamlung � failed to turn up for the hearing although all other accused including Herojit appeared before the Court.
During today's hearing, Prosecution witnesses number 83 and 84 were examined and discharged from the Sessions trial by the Court.
Later, the Court fixed August 8 as the the next date of hearing.
Statements of Imphal West SP Dr AK Jhalajit, Chungkham Sanjit's mother Taratombi and Human Rights Alert Director Babloo Loitongbam had already been examined by the Court so far.
On July 23, 2009, pregnant Thokchom Rabina died after she was hit by a stray bullet coming from an unknown direction in a reported encounter on the busy BT road while Chungkham Sanjit was killed in an alleged encounter inside Maimu Pharmacy located on the same road.
Six and a half years after the incident in January this year, Head Constable Thounaojam Herojit confessed to the media that he killed Chungkham Sanjit in a fake encounter inside Maimu Pharmacy on BT road following an order from Dr AK Jhalajit, then Imphal West Additional SP.
Later, Herojit filed a petition before the Sessions Court seeking permission to confess the alleged crime.
