Sadar Hills, July 29 2016 :
The Joint Tribal Students' Union (JTSU) today condemned the alleged incident of harassment of a tribal girl at TG Hr Secondary School, Imphal yesterday in the office of the college Principal.
A statement jointly signed by the student body's president PG Chapu and general secretary, Th Reuben Vaiphei stated that Joint Tribal Students' Union, a tribal student body of the five Government Higher Secondary Schools, namely, CC Hr Sec School; TG Hr Sec School; Johnstone Hr Sec School; Ananda Hr Sec School and Ibotonsana Hr Sec School strongly condemn the harassment, assault of the tribal girl and the communal act of TG Hr Sec School teachers towards the student body.
It stated that the student body went to the Principal's office of TG Hr Secondary School yesterday and submitted a memorandum regarding the assault, harassment and beating of a tribal student at the school for refusing to participate in the recent ILP agitation by the student organizers of the agitation.
It also said that a meeting was conducted in the Principal's office over the issue while alleging that some teachers interrupted the meeting not giving them a chance to say even a single word and used cruel and communal words which is not expected from teachers.
However, inspite of the student body leaders request for negotiation to resolve the matter, the teachers turned them [the student body leaders] out from the school, it alleged.
Strongly decrying the alleged indiscriminate act of the teachers, the JTSU vehemently condemned the incident and termed it as 'barbaric' while stating that the teachers of TG Hr Sec School completely violated the laws of a democratic Nation.
The student body demanded the department concerned to look into the matter seriously and initiate proper action immediately and resolve the problem so as to avoid further misunderstanding.
