Imphal, September 22 2020:
BJP Manipur Pradesh has strongly condemned the alleged act of rowdyism committed by Opposition MPs led by Congress in the Rajya Sabha ahead of passing three historic Agricultural Bills a few days back.
Speaking to media persons at his Lamphel residence today, BJP Manipur Pradesh chief spokesman Ch Bijoy claimed that the Agricultural Bills would soon become Acts and they would immensely benefits farmers of the country.
The Rajya Sabha recently passed the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill 2020 .
After discussing the Bills, the Rajya Sabha was about decide their fate by voice vote but some Opposition MPs led by Congress snatched Deputy Chairman Harivansh Singh's microphone, tore documents and even tried to assault the Deputy Chairman.
This was something unprecedented in the Parliamentary history of the country, Bijoy decried.
Subsequent upon their rude and aggressive behaviour, eight MPs have been expelled from the Rajya Sabha till the session is over.
The three Agricultural Bills are something enlisted in the election manifestoes of Congress party since many years back but it is Congress party's nature to delay anything which would be beneficial to the country.
It is a party which is always occupied with elections and wielding power, said the BJP spokesman.
The Congress and Opposition MPs were demanding voice vote or sending the Bills to Select Committee which would inevitably delay the Bills for three/four years and it implied that the Opposition parties are anti-farmers, he alleged.
The three Bills would double farmers income ad reduce transportation cost and thus they would ensure food security, he claimed.
He said Opposition party's allegation that minimum support price would be done away with and agricultural products marketing companies would be abolished is baseless.
It would also reduce incidence of suicide by farmers, he added.
