Imphal, November 17 2014:
Almost 50 to 60 per cent of the youngsters of Manipur are suffering from anxiety and misbehaviour, said AMUCO president Dr Y Mani adding that this is a matter of serious concern.
Speaking to media persons at AMUCO office today, Dr Y Mani said that as a cumulative effect of several factors, a large number of youngsters are inflicted by hopelessness, indiscipline, trauma and worthless living style.
"From its long years of experience of working at the grassroot level in association with local clubs, AMUCO could come to the painful conclusion that many of our youngsters are suffering from trauma, anxiety, indiscipline and misbehaviour", observed the AMUCO president.
The fundamental role of saving a family, a locality and a Nation rests on the shoulder of youth.
All the hopes, dreams and vision of a Nation are anchored in the youth.
"The youth and their energy are so powerful that they can shape the future of a Nation but it is a tragedy that many of our youngsters are suffering from indiscipline, anxiety and drifting aimlessly wasting their invaluable time", Dr Mani lamented.
Taking serious note of this disappointing situation, AMUCO would organise a three-day youth leadership residential camp in all the nine districts of Manipur starting from the last week of December.
At least, 500 to 700 youngsters would be enrolled for each of the youth leadership camp.
The primary objective of these camps is to infuse a sense of confidence, discipline and dedication to community service.
These camps would also try to inculcate leadership qualities among the youth starting from grassroot level.
The protracted armed conflict, bonded life style, the ever widening chasm between the rich and the poor, denial of quality education to poor students, ethnic conflict, rampant abuse of drugs and alcohol are some major factors which have taken a heavy toll on the collective psyche and physical health of the youngsters.
The youth leadership residential camps would be attended by social workers, media personalities, art and culture exponents, artistes, bureaucrats, NGO leaders, lawyers, human rights activists, psychologists and doctors.
Finance in-charge of the youth leadership camps Th Deban said that socio-economic and political degeneration of Manipur has had serious impacts on the collective psyche of the youngsters.
This has eroded the sense of Nationalism and fostered the ever-growing attitude of dependence.
Saying that AMUCO alone would not be able to organise the proposed youth leadership camps, Deban sought people's support in cash or kind or just moral support towards successfully organising the youth leadership camps.
