Imphal, November 09 2012:
A group of students ransacked the office chamber of Principal of Lilong Haoreibi College following a standoff in the scrutiny of college students' union election
held today.
According to information culled from the college, the scrutiny was held at 10.30 am at the college for the elections to be held on November 17 .
HM Farid, who identified himself as a candidate of general secretary's post said, three candidates including himself filed nomination papers for the post of the general secretary.
An altercation broke out in the beginning of the scrutiny as his roll number was found doctored from 21 to 210, Farid said.
Farid added that the roll number was correctly printed as 21 in the photostat copy which is in his possession.
Irked with the incident, a group of students is said to have vandalised the office chamber of the Principal, Administrative Block and another room of the college.
Alleging that the nomination paper was altered by the Principal in connivance with the Election Committee, Farid also demanded that the election must not be held until the matter is investigated properly.
The college has been not able to have a students' union since past 2-3 years due to such malpractices of the college authority, Farid added.
He added that the college neither organises annual sports meet and literary meet nor publishes college magazine.
A group of reporters who went to collect news at the college did not get the chance to meet the Principal and college authority.
