MHJU's 32nd foundation day observed

The 32nd foundation day of the Manipur Hill Journalists' Union (MHJU) was observed today at DRDA conference hall, Senapati.
Many journalists from Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Chandel, Senapati and Tamenglong districts attended the function.
ML Markson, Chairman, ADC, Senapati who attended the programme as the chief guest stated that until all the communities living in Manipur extend co-operation to one another, peace will not prevail in Manipur.
Meghachandra Kongbam, Director of Information and Public Relations, Government of Manipur stated that vernacular newspapers educate and enlighten public in hill areas of the State besides providing day to day information.
"A close study of newspapers readership in India shows that there are more readers of vernacular dailies.
This is mainly because English newspapers are confined to cities and towns whereas vernacular newspapers are widely circulated in the rural areas.
The Government of India has been paying special attention towards the growth of vernacular dailies by empanelling them in the DAVP on priority basis.
As long as we maintain and preserve the above canons of journalism, our media products, which may be press or electronic media, will be of great value," he said.
With a view to raise the standard of journalism and to create awareness about journalism in the hill areas of Manipur, the Department of Information & Public Relations, Government of Manipur, for the first time, is organizing a 7-day basic course in news reporting at the district HQs of Senapati and Ukhrul in September.
Eligible qualification for the course is graduate for fresh candidates but preference will be given to working journalists.
Course materials will be provided to the participants.
DIPR is also holding a 3-day Information and Public Relations Festival in all the hill districts and two valley districts with an aim to deliver information on various significant developments in the State, the Director added.
He also appealed to all the members of Manipur Hill Journalists Union to cooperate with DIPR in order extend assistance when needed.
Ajaykumar Sharma, PRO/Defence also spoke on the role played by journalists of hill districts for the people.
