Imphal, September 07 2016:
In an incident which could raise serious questions against the State Medical Directorate's concern for differently abled persons, a 30-year-old differently abled woman could not attend an interview as it was conducted on the 4th floor of the Directorate building today.
Speaking to reporters, Chakpram Lokeshwori d/o Loken of Singjamei Chingamathak Pishum Leirak said that interview for the recruitment of 352 Multi Tasking staff was held at the Directorate today.
She said that she also went to the Directorate with her parents at around 10 am to attend the interview as 3 percent of the total posts is reserved for differently abled persons.
After reaching the office, they enquired about the room where the interview was going on to the security personnel, she said.
As they came to know that the interview was going on at the fourth floor of the office building, her parents requested the security personnel to help them in taking her to the fourth floor, Lokeshwori said.
However, the security personnel responded rudely that they would not be able to take her to the fourth floor, she added.
Although, top ranking officials of the Directorate also saw them requesting the security personnel, they allegedly did not show any mercy to Lokeshwori, who came there on a wheel-chair.
Saying that she had attended many interviews in the past, Lokeshwori said that other Departments and offices usually make necessary arrangements for differently abled persons.
Lokeshwori's mother Sorojini said that differently abled persons have the right to attend the interview and the Directorate must make necessary arrangements for it as 3 per cent of the total posts has been reserved for differently abled persons.
Chakpram Lokeshwori questioned why differently abled persons had been discriminated in such a manner although Rs 200 had been collected from them as well at the time of collecting the forms.
