Imphal, October 06 2012:
Holding the NSCN (IM) responsible for the involuntary disappearance of Irungbam Irabanta Singh, the JAC Against the Abduction of Irungbam Irabanta has threatened to impose general strike followed by indefinite economic blockade on the Imphal-Ukhrul road.
The plan of agitation was announced to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today by JAC convenor Amakcham Radhamani, who reiterated that the contract supplier left home on May 27 to meet NSCN (IM) leaders in Ukhrul district.
According to the convenor, 48 hours general strike will come into force from October 9 midnight along the Imphal-Ukhrul road which will be followed by an indefinite blockade on the same route from October 12 in case there is no breakthrough regarding Irabanta's whereabouts.
Lamenting that inspite of repeated appraisals to the Union Home Minister, Manipur Governor, Chief Minister and Home Minister to trace the whereabouts of Irabanta there is no positive development in the past four months, the convenor stated that the JAC is constrained to impose general strike and economic blockade to protest alleged incompetency of the Government to rescue Irabanta.
While conveying that earlier agitation with the support of civil society organisations had also failed to evoke positive action from the Government, Radhamani sought the cooperation of all concerned to make the upcoming agitation effective.
