Imphal, February 03 2013 :
Kangla moat that has intimate link with the historical Kangla Fort is today ailing.
A symbol of Manipur's glorious past, Kangla moat in the vicinity of the historic Kangla Fort in the heart of Imphal is ignored today.
The once beaming Kangla moat with rippling and glittering water is now soiled and dying.
Visitors to Imphal used to be charmed and amused by this historic trendy water body but these days, the moat's gloss and charms are gone, thanks to the lethargic authority and the indifference of the State Government.
Wastes like empty bottles, polythene bags and other rubbishes are filling the moat.
The freshness of water of the erstwhile Kangla moat is today nothing more than a murky stagnated water body.
Overgrown weeds used to spread over the fringes of the moat during summer.
"Yes, it is a sad thing that the authority concerned is not that active to care the moat these days," said one auto-rickshaw driver.
"Very often we also see children loitering around the moat thereby soiling the water," added the driver.
A visitor from Tamenglong district identified as Lungapou Kamei said that he used to get amused by the moat while riding a rickshaw by the side of the moat during his college days.
"But today, I discovered the sorry condition of the Kangla moat," expressed Lungapou Kamei.
