Imphal, Jul 23:
Refuting the claim of the Assam Rifles that three UNLF cadres were killed in the gun fight at Moreh on July 18-19, the outfit today said that the claim is without basis and was issued with the intention of confusing the people.
The Assam Rifles had claimed that three UNLF cadres were killed on the basis of the disclosure made by a UNLF cadre arrested at Moreh.
In a statement, UNLF said that no cadre of the outfit has been arrested after the encounter and added that the so called arrested cadre must be like one of those who were made to stage the surrender drama some time back.
The statement said that the name of the supposedly arrested cadre of the UNLF does not exist and added that the name was cooked up by the Assam Rifles.
One AR personnel was injured in the attack, said UNLF reminding all that his leg was amputated.
The cadres who took part in the attack have all returned safely to the Bn Hqs, claimed the outfit.
Some Myanmarese civilians were injured when the panic stricken AR men fired indiscriminately across the border under the impression that the UNLF had launched the attack from the other side, said the statement.
The story that UNLF launched the attack from across the border was cooked up by the security force so that it can provide an answer if and when Myanmar questions them about the injuries caused to its citizens.
It was pure propaganda aimed at driving a wedge between the armed groups of Manipur and the Myanmarese Government, claimed UNLF.
Such propaganda has become second nature to the Indian security force and it did not come as a surprise added the outfit.
