Though once consider to be the main rice bowl of the people living in Langdom and its surrounding area, Thongrangbi Loukon has not been able to cultivate due to inundation for the last 20 years as the main canal had been silted up following erection of dam by the fishermen as well as overgrown of reeds and grasses.

Apart from blocking the natural flow of water on account of erection of dams at various spots by the fishermen and overgrown of reeds and grasses, the location of the Loukon with hills on all four directions led to submersion of paddy field, he said.
The narrowness of the shutter or gate constructed on the mouth of Iril river through which excess water used to be drained our from the Loukon also is another factor for causing artificial flood in the area, he pointed out while drawing the attention of the authorities concerned of the Government for taking up necessary measures to widen up the sluice gate.
