The social Environment Development Organisation (SEDO), Mayang Imphal today organised a function to felicitate two students of Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency who stood position in the Higher Secondary School Leaving Examination, 2010 conducted by Council of Higher Secondary, Manipur recently.
A donor to SEDO, Social Worker, K Manglem presided over the function held at the community hall at Mayang Imphal bazar.
Social Worker, U Ramesh was the chief guest and Dr Th Tombi was the guest of honour at the function.
The two students felicitated by the SEDO today are 15th position holder Th Bijen and 20th position holder T Michael.
SEDO honoured the two meritorious students with presentation of simple gifts.
Chief guest of the function, U Ramesh presented Rs 4,000 each to the two students while president of the function, K Manglem encouraged the two students to achieve higher positions in future and gave a sum of Rs 5,000 to each of the two students.
Guest of honour, Dr Ch Tombi also gave the students Rs 500 each.
Speaking at the function, U Ramesh said that it is a matter of pride for the Mayang Imphal areas to have two students who bagged positions in the Class XII examination.
The way their parents and guardians brought them up to reach this prestigious level needs to be appreciated.
It is necessary for other parents and guardians of Mayang Imphal areas to produce good students like the two students being honoured today, Ramesh said.
K Manglem, who also spoke at the solemn function reminded that he had earlier announced that he would give financial award to students from Mayang Imphal areas who win position in Class X and Class XII examinations.
Accordingly, he was giving Rs 5,000 each to the two position holders today.
It is not that the amount he was giving would be a great help to the two students, he said and added that it was just a token of encouragement to the students.
He would try to help the students in future also.
He instilled moral courage in the minds of the two students not to remain discouraged thinking that they belonged to poor families, instead they should work hard to achieve their goals.
