The 106 adhoc doctors who stand to lose their jobs if the government order of October 15 remains, received a temporary reprieve today with the Gauhati High Court, principal bench, passing an interim stay on the order in respect of 16 petitioner doctors who challenge it.
The case has been schedule to come up for hearing in the Imphal bench on November 6, a reliable source in Gauhati said.
The petition against the government order was filed before Justice Ranjan Gogoi, in two separate cases, one by Dr K Surjit and the other by Dr Kh Dev and party.
They were represented by senior advocate PK Goswami and advocate N Jotindro.
It may be recalled that the government order of October 15 terminated the services of 85 adhoc junior medical officers and 21 adhoc dental surgeons in the state health department.
RIMS: In another interesting case involving the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, RIMS, a divisional bench of the Gauhati High Court, comprising Chief Justice RS Mongia and Justice AH Saikia, admitted a case filed by the NEC against an earlier judgment of Justice HKK Singh of the same court, which directed RIMS authorities to allow the admission of 34 students nominated from Manipur for study in the institute.
It may be mentioned that the students were denied admission because the state government failed to pay up its pro rata contribution of Rs 6.32 crore to the RIMS.
