One woman and a six year old kinder garden student were injured in police firing today at about 8.30 am at Kongba Turel Makha.
To protest the firing, AMSU has called a class boycott of all educational institutions tomorrow.
Future course of action would be announced later.
One police commando who opened fire has been placed under suspension, police said.
The injured student is identified as Konsam Kisan son of Ibochouba of Kongba Uchekon.
Kisan is a student of Hafiz Brighter Academy, Keikhu.
The minor who received a bullet wound on the right arm was first rushed to t JN hospital where he was operated upon.
But the bullet could not be located and he was later shifted to Shija Clinic on RIMS road.
He is in critical condition, said hospital sources.
Doctors at Shija clinic said Kisan would be operated upon tomorrow.
Police said the police team opened fire when a large number of women obstructed the police team that had picked up two persons from Kongba Uchekon.
The injured woman is admitted at JN hospital and is out of danger, police said.
The incident occurred while the boy was on his way to school along with his mother.
The mother, Anita said she saw a police commando Gypsy parked on the river bank of Kongba River.
She said she saw her cousin brother called Pakpa and another person inside the Gypsy.
The police commando arrested them.
Anita said she left her son on the road adjacent to the river bank and went to the police commandos to plead her brother�s release.
The police commandos threatened to shoot her, Anita alleged.
She told the police that Pakpa was innocent.
Some women had also come out to witness the confrontation between the police and Anita.
As the gypsy started moving one of the police commandos fell down from the moving vehicle.
The commando then got up and opened a number of shots towards the direction of the river bank.
Kisan was injured in the firing, said Anita.
One woman who was standing near the young boy was also injured.
She is identified as Takhelchangbam Ibemcha (34) wife of Ranjit of Kongba Uchekon.
A bullet grazed her neck.
Soon after the incident a body christened JAC against Indiscriminate Firing was form.
Later the JAC handed responsibility to AMSU to take up future course of actions.
Around 400 students of Hafiz Brighter Academy, Keikhu staged a rally at about 12.30 pm today to submit a memorandum to the governor.
The students were stopped from proceeding further at Sanjenthong by the police.
A scuffle ensued and police had to lathi charge the students.
Tear gas was also used to disperse the students.
Two students were injured in the lathi charge and both have been admitted to JN hospital.
The AMSU has strongly condemned the police firing and has called a class boycott of all schools tomorrow.
