The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal today remanded one hundred agitating employees of the Imphal Municipal Council to 15 days judicial remand.
The employees were demanding payment of 10 months salary.
The employees were picked up this morning by City police near the IMC office gate where the employees were staging a dharna.
Police first swooped down on the agitating employees at about 8 am and took away a number of employees.
Other employees who joined the dharna to replace the first batch were also picked up at about 11.30.Of the hundred employees 37 are women.
Mention may be made here that the cease work strike started from September 8.Meanwhile the Joint Coordination Committee, IMC, has flayed the police action and charged that the act has reduced the employees to bonded laborers.
Rejecting the alleged charge leveled by the IMC chairperson that striking employees had put in salt inside the tank of the vehicles, the committee said in a release that none of the employees have entered the office ever since the strike began.
In the meantime, the pen down strike launched by the JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO since yesterday has virtually paralyzed majority of the government offices for the second day today, claimed JAC today.
The JAC said employees of the MPSC, RD and PR, Government Polytechnic, SCERT etc have also joined the strike.
Secretariat staff will also join the strike from October 22.
