Tangkhul bodies resent, flay media

Ukhrul, April 18 2011: The Tangkhul frontal organisations have strongly resented the April 15, 2011 ambush laid on the Phungyar A/C MLA Wungnaoshang Keishing at Riha village while urging media houses to abstain from publishing 'baseless' news.

In a press release made available to The Sangai Express, the Tangkhul apex bodies�Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL/Youth Council), Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL) and Tangkhul Naga Wungnaolong (TNWL) stated that the frontal organisations have been necessitated to express shock and anguish over the ghastly ambush laid on Keishing and his convoy on their return from Riha Village killing 6 security personnel and two civilians and injuring 6 other escort personnel.

The Tangkhul frontal organisations extend their solidarity to the victims and deeply share the pain, sorrows and grief of the bereaved families and pray for speedy recovery of the injured persons, said the release.

The release also condemned the 'negative' attitude of some media houses for unnecessarily dragging in the name of Tangkhul frontal organisations in the issue by putting suspicion on the ground that the organisations were going against the demand of Phungyar district, saying, "it is very unfortunate that such games are being played upon by media houses for their own selfish ends." The attempt to implicate the frontal organisations is nothing but an act to bring chaos, strife, confusion and division amongst the Tangkhul society by some agents/ agencies taking undue advantage of the incident, it alleged.

Such propaganda is not the first incident where attempts have been made to implicate us and the frontal organisations to defame, abuse its authenticity, sanctity, authority and standings in the society, it further alleged.

Saying that such connotation and proposition made against the frontal organisations is totally baseless, fictitious, unfounded and presumptuous, it claimed that the Tangkhul frontal organisations are harbinger of peace since their inception.

"We recommend every section of the society to stand guard against such superfluous attitude of some elements and agencies and the media houses and the so-called social workers to desist from spreading and publishing unauthenticated and unverified news or issues so that the ethics of journalism is maintained at the most," it urged.

It also appealed to all concerned and responsible citizens to let sense prevail over nonsense, and rationalism over irrationalism.
