MU's 2011-12 budget confirmed

The fourth meeting of the court of Manipur University was held today in the court hall of the University.
Prof HNK Sarma, acting vice-chancellor was in the chiar as Prof PN Srivastava, chancellor of the university could not attend the meeting due to ill health.
A one-minute silent was observed at the beginning of the meeting to mark a respect on the demise of prof Shyamacharan, prof Th Bhagirath, prof (retired) Ch Manihar, Md Rashid Khan (SO), other employees, N Kunjo, S Sunil, M Mocha Meitei and W Nimai.
In his welcome address, prof HNK Sarma said that all the six schools of studies have been performing exceedingly well including the centres for Manipur Studies, Myanmar Studies, Study of Social Inculsive and Exclusive Policy, Human Rights and Duties Education Women's Studies, the Academic Staff College and the Education Multi Media Research
Centre.
The Department of Manipuri, Chemistry and Physics have been receiving grants under the Special Assistance Programme of UGC as a Centre of Advanced Studies in Life Sciences has been recognized by the UGC as a Centre of Advanced Studies in Life Sciences, he said adding that apart from giving funds for PG Diploma in the Departments of Physics, Earth Sciences, Biochemistry etc.
Prof Sarma said that the university received Rs 23.83 crores during 2008-09 as block grants from the UGC and generated a reserve of Rs 3.22 crores.
The estimated block grant required from the UGC is Rs 45.13 crores for 2009-10 and Rs 35.67 crores for 2010-11, he added.
The meeting discussed and passed the proceeding of 3rd meeting of the court held on April 22 and the proceeding of the Executive Council held in May 2010 and March 2011.Prof G Jitendra Sharma, School of Life Science presented the proceeding of the executive council.
The budget estimate for the year 2011-12 and revised estimate 2010-11 were also confirmed after discussion in the meeting.
Prof W Nabakumar singh, dean of school of humanity and environmental sciences presented the reports in the meeting which was attended by 33 members.
