Imphal, June 16:
The Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) said that the Centre should retract the decision keeping in mind that peoples of diverse communities are residing together in the State.
The student body said that trying to bring peace in one State at the cost of the other is not a healthy trend.
The move amounts to wiping out the smaller clans in the North East and the resultant effect will be hazardous for the overall integrity of the country.
Stating that it will support any movement taken up against the truce extension, MUSU charged the Centre of trying to break up the State on communal lines.
The All India Youth Federation, All Manipur Nupi Marup, Youths' Organization Club, Naharup Makha Pat, Lilong United Clubs' Organization, All Manipur Film Producers' Association, Punna Hing minnaba Khunnai have also pledged support to the general strike.
In a statement, the Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress said that the announcement of the ceasefire and statement given by Samata Party leader George Fernandes just a few hours before that the Centre won't extend the boundary shows the step-motherly treatment meted out to the State by the Centre.
Meanwhile, the SFI, Manipur said that its secretary A Ibemcha Chanu has left Imphal today for the SFI national executive meeting to be held at Dehradun.
