Imphal, October 15 2008:
An apex body of the Kuki outfits, United People's Front (UPF) has described the incident that happened in its operative area in which four cadres of the proscribed UKLF were arrested by the Assam Rifles as unfortunate.
In a statement, information and publicity secretary of UPF Samuel Kuki said that it was unfortunate that such incidents occurred even after the Suspension of Operation has already been enforced.
It would have been more preferable if the problem had been dealt in a better way.
Explaining UPF's stand on agreeing to sign the Suspension of Operation (SoO) with the Centre and the State Government on August 22, 2008, Samuel Kuki explained that since its inception, UPF has always stood for and worked for unity, peace and harmony among various groups/tribes of people in general and the tribal people of Manipur in particular.
However, due to various reasons, the tribal people of Manipur have been forming many revolutionary outfits using different names.
With some like minded leaders of UPF coming to realise that without unity the problems of tribal people could not be solved, UPF has been doing its best to unite the tribal people of Manipur.
As a result all the revolutionary outfits inside the UPF are working under one goal of finding a lasting solution for the tribal people of Manipur, said the UPF leader.
In pursuance of this goal, the UPF had agreed to signed a Suspension of Operation with the Centre and the State Government on August 22, 2008 .
Therefore, UPF would like to appeal to all the revolutionary organisations inside and outside the UPF to respect each other and work together for the tribal people of Manipur, and to the Central and the State forces to respect the conditions and ground rules of the SoO, Samuel Kuki added.
