The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Lamphel will celebrate its 30th Foundation day tomorrow.
The institute was started on September 14, 1972 and is a joint venture of the North East States, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura.
It is fully funded by the Centre through the North Eastern Council and six beneficiary States.
The RIMS campus stands on 192 acre and comprises 881 bedded hospital and 25 major departments including super specialties on cardiothoracic surgery, plastic surgery and urology.
The intake of undergraduate students is 100 per year and the institute has started post graduate courses in Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Forensic medicine, Pharmacology medicine, Paediatrics, Anesthesiology, Psychiatry, Anatomy, Surgery, ENT, Opthalmology, Orthopaedics and Gynae, said a statement.
The important facilities available at the institute include Intensive Care Unit, Intensive Coronary Care Unit (for heart patient), Haemodialysis (for kidney failure patients), G-l endoscopy, CT Scan, Extra corporeal shock wave lithotripsy (for removal of kidney stone without operation), c-arm image intensifier arthoscope, tread mill stress testing (for heart), selectron (for womb cancer).
