The ten-day Public Dialogue organized by AMUCO got underway today at Hotel Excellency.
The Public Dialogue held under the theme, Unity, Development and Peace will goon till September 23.Senior journalist, M Madhumangol attended the opening day function as moderator while Dr Dhanabir Laishram, Prof N Joykumar and Ramthing Hungyo were the speakers.
Addressing the meet, Dr Dhanabir Laishram said that it is imperative for all to strive and understand the likes and dislikes of different communities of inhabiting the State.
Only when sincere efforts are made in this connection can the people progress and usher in development, peace and peaceful co-existence, he added.
The importance of living together in mutual trust and harmony is the first step to peaceful co-existence, opined Dr Dhanabir Laishram.
Only peace can lead to communal harmony and communal amity.
Stressing on the importance of promoting economic and political integrity, Prof Joykumar said when these two aspects are achieved it will automatically lead to unity.
Once unity of the people is achieved it will lead to development and peace will follow as a natural fall out, he said.
Social misunderstandings amongst communities need to be uprooted.
Ramthing Hungyo said it is imperative to promote fraternal bond and love and humanity.
Peace will follow when the people learn to live together without any traces or feelings of animosity.
He added that it is imperative to bring all our problems to the open and thrash out a solution in co-operation with each other.
The meeting discussed in details the theme of the dialogue after all the speakers had addressed the gathering.
