The NSCN (IM) today condemned the 20th Assam Rifles stationed at Ukhrul, for attacking and killing its cadres at the Laii village on July 11, even after the Bangkok agreement to extend the ceasefire to all Naga inhabited areas.
A press release faxed to the IFP late this evening said the personnel of the Assam Rifles surrounded the houses where the NSCN (IM) men were taking shelter at 3.20 am and started firing at them.
The troops overpowered six men including innocent villagers and later tortured two of the NSCN (IM) men to death.
The NSCN (IM) men, the release said, did not fire a single shot at the raiders in keeping with the orders from the high command, otherwise heavy casualties could have been inflicted on the Assam Rifles men.
The release alleged that many villagers of Laii were also beaten up.
The troops also took away an SBBL belonging t one Kh Sani of Laii village, the release said.
The release further alleged that the troops have been making several other raids at villages in the in the Chandel and Senapati districts of the �so called Manipur.� The villages are Thamlakhuren in Chandel, on July 4, by the IRB based at Molnoi; Lamkhangkhunou by 5th Grenadier on July 8; Thamlapokpi in Chandel on July 8 by the 5th Grenadier.
Troops also attacked Lairouching in Senapati; Phaibung in Senapati; Oklung and surrounding villages in Senapati all during the months of June and July, the release said.
