A 28-year old man was killed while two other persons including a 15-year old teenaged boy sustained injuries when unidentified persons attacked them with hand grenade at Chairen Khongnang Makhong, 8 kms North-East of Sugnu Police Station at around 7 pm yesterday.
The deceased youth is identified as Laishram Jiban (28) s/o Laishram Dhananjoy Singh of Chairen Khongnang Makhong.
He was married and left behind a 3-year old daughter.
Jiban was was a farmer.
According to information provided by the bereaved family members, Jiban was coming home after drinking liquor from a local vendor when he had an argument with some unidentified persons at the residential compound of one Khundrakpam Bimo of Chairen Khongnang Makhong.
The unidentified persons lobbed a hand grenade and fled from the scene immediately.
When the grenade exploded, Jiban was hit by splinters on the back of his head and lower back.
Two other persons, namely Khundrakpam Ashengbi (57) and her 15-year old grandson, Rozy s/o Khundrakpam Bimo, who were standing nearby, were also hit by grenade splinters.
Ashengbi sustained injuries on her left knee and Roji on his neck.
All three of them were rushed to RIMS Hospital.
But as the condition of Jiban was serious, he was later referred to JN Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries at around 9 am today.
Ashengbi and her grandson, Roji have been discharged from RIMS after treatment as their injuries were not serious.
