Imphal, December 05:
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has advised all the authorities concerned including the Ministers and MLAs not to discriminate and unduly interfere in the eviction drive of encroachers, a reliable source said.
The Chief Minister called a meeting in his office chamber this morning in connection with yesterday's violent incident in which the Imphal East DC and his team had a narrow escape when unruly mob pelted stones at them during an eviction drive carried out at Kongba bazar.
The meeting was attended by Social Welfare Minister Vivek Raj Wangkhem, Thongju Kendra MLA and MoS (Independence charge) Family Welfare Bijoy Koijam and other State officials concerned.
Highlighting the various problems being created by the encroachers, the Chief Minister said that while carrying out the eviction drive, the Ministers/MLAs and officials concerned should leave aside all consideration of the constituency he belongs to or the vote banks and not give undue interference.
The Chief Minister asserted that eviction of illegal encroachers is a necessity.
However it should be carried out after a thorough checking so that none of the rightful patta holders are affected.
He expressed concern over the increasing number of encroachers specially in Imphal and the Greater Imphal areas and said that this has become one of the main stumbling blocks in implementation of various projects like the Sewage System to be taken up by the France Government.
