Imphal, June 04:
Just on the heels of imposition of President's Rule in Manipur, the new state Director General of Police (DGP) has brought a string of changes in the set-up of the state police department.
In his bid to refurbish the state police force, the DGP has personally visited and inspected the police stations and out post lying at the far flung areas of the hills and valley of the state and has inquired into their various shortcomings.
With his intervention, shortages of vehicles and staffs have been solved on a war footing.
In this arrangement, the DGP has transferred all the excess police personnel from some police stations and outposts to other stations where there are shortages of the same.
In the meantime, the DGP has also withdrawn many escort vehicles used by some high-ranking police officials at Imphal not necessarily in connection with the law and order situation, but more on a show of their personnel status.
As a sequence to his refurbishing actions, the DGP has taken up steps to reopen those police stations which have been closed on the ground of frequent looting of arms by the underground elements by overpowering the concerned police personnel.
Towards this objective, many armed police personnel have been sent to the Sugunu police station and it has begun functioning normally.
