Imphal, August 31:
Troops of the 21st Assam Rifles shot dead a KNF (MC) cadre and apprehended two others in a shootout yesterday at Motbung in Senapati district.
According to a statement issued by the PIB, defence wing, the incident took place at Phaoipi basti in Motbung yesterday.
A country made 9 mm rifle with five rounds was also recovered.
In further operations, acting on the basis of information provided by the apprehended men, Assam Rifles troops picked up five more UGs belonging to the KNF(MC) and another belonging to the NSCN(K) from Keithelmanbi bazar this morning.
One UG sustained bullet injuries while trying to escape from the AR Personnel.
A second 9 mm country made rifle was also recovered, along with six rounds.
The statement said the two UGs nabbed yesterday have been handed over to the Supermeina police, along with the dead body of the slain militant.
The other six are being detained for interrogation.
According to another report, personnel of the 20th Assam Rifles intercepted a jeep moving on the Tadubi to Ukhrul road on the night of August 25 last, and recovered a huge quantity of explosives, including 12 kgs and 500grms of galantine sticks as well as 295 nos, of detonators.
Two persons, Joseph Mao, 40 of Kaibi village, and Khamrang Naomi, 45, of Mapao village of Senapati district were nabbed in this connection.
