Following the arrest of three persons in connection with the murder of Telecom Engineer Ambe on January 20 this year, the CID Crime Branch which cracked the case now have got the identity of the main accused behind the murder of the official.
Sources in Crime Branch said they now know for sure that the main accused is a driver and police are looking for him.
The sources refused to disclose the name of the main accused.
The three persons arrested earlier in connection with the murder case are, Arambam Indrajit (35) of Mayang Imphal Thana Leikai, Hawaibam Gohen (23) of Sabal Tongba Awang Leikai and Huidrom Samanandaof Yumnam Huidrom.
The three have been remanded to police custody for eight days and hectic interrogation and investigation are now underway, said sources.
Telephone wires, cordless machines and other material have been recovered following their arrest.
Police are on the alert to arrest the main culprit and his identity has been revealed by the three accused.
All out efforts would be made to track down the main killer, said sources.
Another accused identified as Rashid has fled to Rajasthan.
The Crime Branch said the three arrested are KYKL (O) and NSCN (IM) activists.
The Telecom Engineer was eliminated as he refused to buckle under pressure to write off a whooping telephone bill of some PCOs "patronized" by the militant, said sources.
The sources further charged that the NSCN (IM) and KYKL (O) had set up seven PCOs with ISD/STD facilities to keep in touch and to relay messages across the world.
The bills incurred by the militants for using the PCOs amounted to about Rs 40/50 thousand per month per booth.
The Engineer had refused to write off some Rs 8 lakhs bill amount of the PCOS and had disconnected the PCOs for non payment; police said adding that he might be killed for refusing to obey the militants.
