CAU organises two day workshop on IPR related issues

Central Agricultural University (CAU) conducted a two day online workshop on May 28 and 29 through its Directorate of Extension Education in association with Resource Management Cell (RMC).
Dr Ranjit Sharma, Director Extension Education higlighted the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for agricultural scientists and opined that most innovation and discoveries made by CAU could not be commercialized due to lack of patents and other forms of IPRs, said a statement issued by CAU.
Dr Kalpana Sastry, former Joint Director of National Agricultural Research and Management, Hyderabad addressed the participants on the usefulnees of IPRs.
She added that the problems faced by North East India was the unavailability of qualified councils for IPR related issue as a result anyone interested in getting patents for their innovations/products has to rush to Kolkata and other cities outside NER.
PK Bagchi, practising advocate, shared knowledge on relevant laws in patenting and the participants were introduced to method of patenting and related legal issues.
Dr K Srinivas, assistant director, ICAR said agricultural scientists developed several technologies but while developing on the technologies, the commercialization aspect of the technologies are generally left out, because of this, most of the technologies do not see the light of the day and are not patented.
Others prominent speakers like Dr Manju Gerard, Dr Sanjeev Saxena and Dr Shiv Dutt Sharma shared their expert, opinions on the topic.
