Imphal, May 17 2021:
Expressing concern over the mounting Covid-19 positivity and fatality rate in the state, Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has called upon all CSOs, student organisations, local clubs, NGOs and philanthropic organisations to join forces and work together for fighting Covid-19 second wave instead of putting the entire responsibilities of combating Covid-19 pandemic on government and front-line warriors.
In a release, MSF stated that healthcare workers are facing a lot of difficulties in treating Covid-19 patients as most of them are brought to hospitals/PHC/PHSC/CHC when they are in critical condition.
In addition to this, many have succumbed due to delay in providing medical oxygen supply while there had been worrisome scenes of patient parties squabbling for oxygen cylinders in hospitals, it noted.
Despite bringing in of oxygen cylinders from outside as oxygen plants in the state could not produce oxygen adequately for the state, it seems that the government is still unable to ensure oxygen sufficiently to the people, MSF said.
Even though the government is giving primary focus to the health care sector, there is the need for looking into other sectors as well, the release opined, while pointing out the lack of medicine and oxygen supply for patients on one hand and hunger and scarcity of food for poor people on the other.
Stating that Covid patients from poor families could not get treatment as medicines and other essential items are beyond their reach, MSF demanded the government to form a special team and look into the rising prices of essential items and medicines.
Appreciating the selfless works of frontline war -riors in combating Covid-19 pandemic, MSF also expressed condolences over the demise of many important personalities of the state including Dr Jodhachandra Sanasam, who had been working tirelessly for the welfare of the state and JNIMS Dr Richard Doumei.
MSF also paid highest respect to them for their works and sacrifice and said that their works for the welfare of Manipur will always be remembered.
