Treated-bed nets, Ayush drugs distributed

Under the joint initiative of Manipur State Vector Borne Disease Control Society and Ayush Cell of Directorate of Health Services, Manipur 'long lasting insecticide treated bed nets (LLIN) and Ayush Drugs for yoga and nature cure have been handed over to district level officers for distribution to the public.
The items were distributed at the Lamphelpat complex of Medical Directorate by Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar Singh, Commissioner (Health) V Vumlunmang, Mission Director of State Health Society NRHM Manipur PK Jha, Family Welfare Director Dr L Joykumar and Director of Health Services Dr S Ibomcha Singh.
Delivering the key-note address, State Malaria Officer Dr A Ibochouba stated that handing over the LLIN bed nets is being undertaken to sustain ongoing campaign for controlling spread of malaria diseases in the State.
Even though fogging and distribution of chemically treated mosquito nets in various corners of the State have been able to control outbreak of vector borne diseases today's distribution of bed nets treated with Deltamethrin is a part of the ongoing campaign to minimise malarial diseases.
Explaining on the recently procured bed nets, he said thread for knitting the special mosquito nets are soaked in Deltamethrin with the chemical having a five year life-span during which it could be washed 20 times.
however, while drying these bed nets they should not be exposed directly to the Sun, he advised while adding that under a specific policy of the Ministry of Health Services for maximum checking of spread of malaria the bed nets are being distributed.
It is also informed that 42 high risk zones have been identified out of the total of nine districts and Kangpokpi sub-division for distribution of the LLIN bed nets.
Moreover, out of the total of 55,000 bed nets handed over to the District Malaria officers concerned 11,4,34 are meant for distribution to select beneficiaries of Churachandpur district; Ukhrul to receive 4667 of them; Kangpokpi 3412; Chandel 2829; Imphal east 10,184; Imphal West 2225; Bishnupur 994; Thoubal 6050, Senapati 2702; and Tamenglong 9912 .
On the otherhand, speaking in connection with the distribution of Ayush drug for Yoga and Nature Cure, Dr A Guneshor said out of nine Ayush units under Indian System of Medicine the distribution of Ayush medicines is being held in seven units out of which Manipur is one.
In his address as the chief guest, Minister L Jayantakumar called upon the medical practitioners to work with dedication to their profession, to restore confidence of the common public who looks upto doctors as life savers.
While pointing that he was entrusted the health portfolio only recently, the Minister nevertheless pledged his personal endeavour to improve health care infrastructure and ensure adequate man-power.
he also strongly advocated ensuring round the clock service of medical personnel inspite of the day being working days or holidays.
Speaking at the occasion, Commissioner (Health) V Vumlunmang highlighted that every year over 1000 cases of malaria infections are reported in the State.
Exhorting ASHAs to contribute their mite in checking outbreak of calamitous diseases in the interior areas of Manipur, he also called upon all concerned to ensure the Ayush medicines reach the targeted section of the society.
