Imphal, January 24 2015 :
Strongly condemning the police act of opening fire to control agitators which claimed the life of a minor boy yesterday at Lilong, the BJP Manipur State Unit has demanded a prompt judicial probe into the incident.
Briefing the press at the BJP office today, BJP Mani-pur State Unit president Th Chaoba said that the BJP State Unit conducted a spot enquiry at the place where the unfortunate incident took place.
The incident would not have happened if the State Government had taken up the right mechanism to fulfil the aspiration of Lilong public, Chaoba said.
It may be mentioned that public of Lilong under the aegis of Lilong Political Unified Link (LIPUL) imposed an indefinite blockade along the Imphal-Moreh highway demanding widening of a stretch of the highway to accommodate the growing number of traffic.
Stating that the action of the security personnel amounts to criminal act, Chaoba urged the Government to conduct judicial enquiry to find out what exactly happened at the spot.
He further said that the responsibility should be taken by the Cabinet Ministers collectively.
Furthermore, he demanded justification of the act from the State Government and also from the police department in the Lilong incident.
He alleged that the local MLA, who is also the Agriculture Minister used impolite words instead of scheming diplomatic means to subside the agitation.
He said that the series of bomb blasts Manipur experiences is the result of security lapses.
He added that Union Ministers would soon start visiting the State to assess development works taken up by the State Government.
