KEDO celebrates 8th foundation day Deputy CM espouses dignity of labour

Manipuris are independent proud people with so much of untapped potential which need to be unlocked, stated Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam at the 8th foundation day celebration of Kanglei Economic Deve-lopment Organisation (KEDO) at Emoinu Ima Keithel (Khwairamband Nupi Keithel No.2), Imphal today.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam graced the foundation day as the chief guest, Chairman of Planning and Development Authority, T Mangibabu was the functional president while Chairperson of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) A Nimai, Editor, The Sangai Express (Mani-puri edition) Khogendra Khomdram and Editor, Pok-napham A Robindro Sharma were the guests of honour.
KEDO, a self sustaining organization comprising of educated unemployed youths of the State who are trying to usher in a vibrant work culture throughout the State by taking up all kinds of works in and around the heart of Imphal city should be supported by one and all, stated Gaikhangam.

He further said that KEDO has set an example to the younger generation that one can earn a steady income and lead a happy life through manual labour.
"They have demonstrated undoubtedly that white collared jobs are not the only ones we should sought ", the Deputy Chief Minister asserted.
"In this fast moving world where our society is more like a global village, we need to change and adapt ourselves and change our concepts of works and be more persevering if we should develop like any other States", he added.
Gaikhangam said, "Everyone must have dignity of labour and should not shy away from performing any kind of work which our society might consider as odd" .
The new system of paying wages to labourers based on working hours has been introduced in Manipur.
This would encourage everyone to have the sense of dignity in what they do, he added.
T Mangibabu stated the Planning and Development Authority of Manipur would provide any kind of support of KEDO volunteers need.
He applauded the hard work and dedication of KEDO volunteers.
Khogendra Khomdram stated that such selfless attitude shown by KEDO members in providing service to mankind should be remembered by everyone.
He further stated that "if we Manipuris are ready to take up all the manual jobs that migrants workers are holding on, then the issue of Inner Line Permit System will be automatically solved" .
He urged the youths to follow the footsteps of KEDO if they must succeed in life.
Robindro urged the volunteers of KEDO to provide some forms of basic training in skill development like hair cutting, cobbling etc.
A Nimai Sharma said that office bearers of KEDO should apply for cleanliness drive to the IMC to get various forms of benefits like other NGOs.
Women vendors of Ima Keithel urged the Deputy CM and other officials of IMC and PDA to look into their various problems.
As part of the function, KEDO president Soibam Maniton was felicitated for achieving the prestigious banana award.
Various awards were conferred to volunteers of KEDO for their service and the dignitaries also released the third souvenir of KEDO.
The dignitaries who attended the function also made monetary donations to KEDO.
