Catholic School impasse persists : Orchestrated Efforts On For Regular Classes

While the KCP (MC) remains rock firm on imposing the ban on the seven Catholic schools in Imphal, there have been orchestrated efforts by the school authority, parents, students and transporters to reopen the schools.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam says that the government is not a mute spectator.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function organised by Kanglei Economic Development Organisation (KEDO), the Deputy Chief Minister said that the Government is trying for a "tie-up" between the schools and the organisations concerned and he was hopeful that the schools will be reopened shortly.
Referring to the bird flu outbreak, Gaikhangam said that there is no fear for human infection.
This disease can be checked with some precautions.
Democratic Students' Alliance, Manipur (DESAM) Education and Academic Affairs Secretary S.Bormani said that full classes could not be held in the Catholic schools on Monday.
Efforts are being made to have full regular classes from Tuesday.
DESAM is not happy that some teachers did not come to the school in time and urged them to attend without fail on Tuesday.
S Bhubol, President and N Jibit Meitei General Secretary of the Parent Teacher Association and Catholic School Local Guardians Association respectively in a joint statement said that normal classes were held from Monday in Catholic School Canchipur.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has announced that its volunteers will form human chains around the Catholic schools in Imphal to protect the students and schools from Wednesday.
It had set the deadline for solution to the impasse on Tuesday.
This was stated by the AMSU President Sanasam Subashchandra while talking to reporters on Monday.
He appealed to the group not to vitiate the academic atmosphere but to adopt other means which shall not affect the students.
The parents of the students of Little Flower will hold a meeting on Tuesday.
All parents are informed to reach the school before 8 am.
Meanwhile, in a belated move, the Cabinet will convene a meeting on Tuesday to take stock of the situation.
The schools were closed down from April 7 .
