Intelligence failure, says MPP

Imphal, August 02 2011:
While strongly condemning the powerful bomb blast at Sangakpham which claimed the lives of five people including two young students besides injuring eight other people, the Manipur People's Party (MPP) has asserted the bomb blast was a glaring indication of the Government's intelligence failure.
A team of MPP leaders led by its president Dr Nimaichand Luwang visited the injured victims of the bomb attack at RIMS and Shija Hospital today.
The team also extended monetary assistance to the injured victims.
Later speaking to media persons at MPP office, Nimaichand said that a bomb-fitted scooter was discovered in Sangakpham area sometime back, only to be followed by yesterday powerful blast which looked like the explosive was fitted in a two-wheeler.
This only showed that the Government's intelligence department has failed miserably, Nimaichand Luwang asserted.
The Government of Manipur should bear responsibility for the devastating blast.
Talking about the prevailing law and order situation, Nimaichand stated "the notion that incidents of killing have fallen a little as compared to previous year and that the law and order situation has improved marginally was proved wrong by the Sangakpham blast".
He further alleged that the rate of killing was higher last year as Government agencies were also involved in many cases of killing.
Nevertheless, it seemed the rate of killing has declined to a certain extent after the July 23 Khwairamband Killing, Dr Nimaichand said.
He said that MPP shared pain and sorrow of the bereaved families as well as the injured.
