Imphal, January 28:
Suspected militants launched an attack on a convoy of Thoubal police commandos at Petchi Chinglak Lambi, some 3.5 kms towards north of Yairipok police station at about 10.25 this morning.
According to reports received by the press, the commandos were coming on their routine duty in three Gypsies, when the militants blew up a bomb already planted there.
However, it missed the target.
The militants who were hiding among the bushes of the hills situated on either side of the road also fired at the convoy and the commandos also retaliated.
A brief gun fight ensued for about 20 minutes.
There was no report of any casualty on the side of the commandos.
However, the wind shields of the Gypsies have been smashed and a HT line snapped due to the impact of the bomb blast.
Man shot dead: Unidentified youths gunned down a sixty three year old man at Moirangkhom Sougaijam Leirak this afternoon at around three.
The deceased is identified as Wahengbam Kula of Sagolband Moirang Leirak and a business partner of SEWA that specializes in manufacturing and hiring out shamianas, karnats etc located at Moirangkhom.
Three youths alighted from a Maruti car and approached the man who was sitting on a chair in front of the shop and shot at him from close range after briefly talking to him.
Kula, who received two bullets on the head, died on the spot.
Police found the white colored Maruti car (MN06-111) abandoned at Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leikai.
