Imphal, July 19 2016:
People of Thanga and elected local bodies have condemned a notification issued by the Moirang Municipal Council (MMC) which reportedly invited private firms for management of vehicle parking at Sendra foothill.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, Thanga Zilla Parishad member Ningthoujam Dinesh said that Sendra village is located within Thanga Assembly Constituency, Thanga ZP and Thanga Gram Panchayat (GP) .
According to the electoral rolls published by the Election Commission of India and a gazette notification issued on October 4, 2012, Sendra is located within Thanga and Thanga ZP has been undertaking different development programmes at Sendra, Dinesh said.
However, on July 17, MMC Executive Officer Md Daulat Khan issued a notification through newspapers inviting applications from registered youth clubs/associations for management of parking lot at Sendra foothill.
Asking what prompted the MMC to issue such a notification, Dinesh maintained that Sendra has been a part of Thanga since Manipur attained Statehood.
He also questioned imposition of restrictions under CrPC 144 at Sendra by the Bishnupur District Magistrate.
Pointing out that Sendra is a popular tourist spot, Dinesh contended that no untoward incident took place at the area.
On being enquired with the DC/DM Bishnupur, it was told that CrPC 144 was invoked at the behest of the Chief Minister, Dinesh conveyed.
He then asked as to why the Chief Minister was trying to create conflict between Moirang and Thanga.
He also asked both the MMC Executive Officer and the Bishnupur DC/DM to retract their respective steps.
If the MMC Executive Officer and the Bishnupur DC/DM fail to retract their steps, people of Thanga would fight back in a befitting manner, he added.
Thanga Part I GP Pradhan Khwairakpam Binarani and Member Moirangthem Sikander were also present at the press meet.
