Imphal, October 09 2016:
The Co-ordination Committee on Fuel Adulteration (CCoFA) comprising of 21 civil society organisations has decided to go ahead with its 1st phase of National Highways bandh following the failure of the < Nagaland Government to rope in the CBI to probe the fuel adulteration racket within 15 days time.
Since the deadline has expired, the highway bandh will now come into force, said CCoFA in a statement and added that in the 1st phase there will be total restrictions on the movement of fuel tankers and Nagaland Government registered vehicles along NH-29 (AH-1) .
Movement of other vehicles will not be disturbed anywhere else, added the statement.
If the Government still refuses to accede to the demand, then the CCoFA will be constrained to widen the scope of the bandh and go ahead with an indefinite highway bandh from October 17, warned the statement.
The fuel adulteration racket hits Manipur the most, said the statement and added that 70 to 80 pc of the adulterated fuel go to Manipur.
The highway bandh is in the interest of everyone, said CCoFA and appealed to the people of Manipur to bear with the inconvenience.
