MCM decries failure of IRB men to save drowning youth

Muslim Council Manipur (MCM) has decried the alleged inaction of IRB personnel who failed to save a youth from drowning in the river.
The incident took place after the youth who was playing in the KR lane football ground, New Checkon got drowned in the nearby Imphal river.
Speaking to media persons in this regard at its office on Monday, MCM president Arafat recalled that a team of 8th IRB led by an officer dispersed some youths of Hatta Golapati area who were playing football at KR lane football ground on Sunday.
Fearing the police, three /four youths went towards the river to cross it.
Though some of them managed to cross the river, Md Fariz Khan (24), son of late Isllaudiri, got drowned in the river.
Friends of Fariz as well as IRB personnel saw him drowning.
But the IRB personnel did not try to save the drowning youth, he contended.
Stating that everybody should follow the curfew imposed by the government for containing the spread of Covid-19, Arafat said that the unfortunate incident might not have happened had the IRB personnel not threatened the youth from playing football.
He further urged security personnel and the people to join hands and work together so that such unfortunate incident does not recur.
