Steps on to exclude non-tribals from voting

As of now, non-tribals, other than Gorkhali, can cast votes in the election to Local Council (LC) in Aizawl city.
Meanwhile, State Election Commission (SEC) is now taking step in order that the non-tribals may not cast votes in the next local council election due early next year, state daily Vanglaini reported today.
SEC secretary H Darzika said that as per existing law, non-tribals can cast votes in local council election.
However, "we are now taking steps in order that the non-tribals may not cast votes in the next local council election in February or March next year," he added.
H Darzika further informed that the draft for the law that will exclude the non-tribals from exercising their franchise in local council have been sent to Law & Judicial department.
SEC has also clarified the points obscured to the Law '& Judicial, as sought, he added.
In reply, SEC secretary also said that the final Assembly electoral roll, for which revision is going on, shall not be used for next VC/LC election next year.
"It shall be used only for Draft roll.
There is no point that the Non tribals will cast votes," he said.
